6000 hours of therapy provided

Background
Since 2023 Red Umbrella has been working with one of the most prestigious farming charities in the UK to support the mental health and wellbeing of the farming community. As one of the most at risk industries for poor mental health and suicide rates, the charities aim was to provide much needed education and immediate professional support. But regular off the shelf training wasn’t going to be enough.
Solution
Red Umbrella have created a bespoke farming focused mental health first aid courses, that is accredited by Ofqual and really tackles the nuanced challenges facing the farming community. This course has been delivered across the length of the country, to farmers, suppliers, vets, DEFRA and the Environment Agency. Red Umbrella’s ability to tailor it’s training to the organisation being delivered to has led to a huge success rate in our training, with 97% of people saying they left with more knowledge and more confidence to tackle mental health within their community. But that’s not all, Red Umbrella has provided over 6,000 hours of therapy support to people working and living in the agricultural sector over a 3 year period. Our team of therapists were upskilled to understand the pressures of farming, and to understand the terminology used. This empowered therapists to better understand the people they were supporting, leading to better outcomes from therapy.
Results
Through our work with the farming charity we’ve been able to touch the lives of over 1,400 people, empowering them to look after their own mental health, and that of others around them. Crucially, our work has helped to shine a light on mental health within farming, and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
